1. Lawton & Brody (1969): introduced the term IADL to encompass more complex tasks involved with domestic and community participation.
2. Lawton (1971): specially defined IADL as comprising use of the telephone, shopping, food preparation, housekeeping, laundry, transportation use, medication management, and handling finances.
3. Katz (1983): IADL includes: shopping, cooking, housekeeping, laundry, use of transportation, managing money, managing medication, and the use of the telephone.
4. Occupational Therapy Practice Framework: Domain and Process (2 nd) (2008): IADL: "Activities to support daily life within the home and community that often require more complex interations than self-care used in ADL", including (1) care of others (including selecting and supervising caregivers) (2) care of pets (3) child rearing (4) communication management (5) community mobility (6) finacial management (7) health management and maintenance (8) home establishment and management (9) meal preparation and cleanup (10) religious observance (11) safety and emergency maintenance (12) shopping.
Combine together:
1. communication management (including telephone use)
2. shopping
3. meal preparation and cleanup (including food prepartion, cooking)
4. home establishment and management (including housekeeping, laundry)
5. community mobility (including transportation use)
6. health management and maintenance (including medication management)
7. financial manement (handling finances/ managing money)
